Abuse Prevention Policy

The General Conference of the United Methodist Church, in 1996, adopted a resolution aimed at reducing the risk of secual abuse of youth and children in the church.

In covenant with The United Methodist Church, Connection Community Church has adopted this policy for reducing the risk of abuse of children, youth, and all vulnerable people in our church.

The purpose of the Abuse Prevention Policy is to demonstrate our absolute and unwavering commitment to the physical safety and spiritual growth of all people and to the core values of Connection Community Church, including love, honor, integrity, accountability, fidelity in marriage and celibacy in singleness.

Statement of Covenant

Therefore, as a Christian community of faith and a United Methodist congregation, we pledge to conduct the ministry of the gospel in ways that promote the safety and spiritual growth of all people as well as those carrying out the work of ministry. We will:
  • follow reasonable safety measures in the selection and recruitment of workers;
  • implement prudent operational procedures in all programs and events;
  • educate workers regarding the use of appropriate policies and methods;
  • have a clearly defined procedure for reporting a suspected incident of abuse that conforms to the requirements of state law; and
  • be prepared to respond to media inquiries if an incident occurs.
